We are committed to protecting fish stocks and our fish is mainly sourced from small day boats across the South Coast - from Sussex all the way through to Cornwall. We also source our white fish and premium smoked haddock from Peterhead in Scotland. We work with specialist importers for our sushi grade, line caught tuna and our line caught swordfish. Our salmon is mainly sourced from Loch Duart who is Freedom Food-approved.

We stock over 100 fresh fish and seafood products and a number of locally sourced and speciality foods are also available in our shops. We specialise in day boat, line caught and sustainable fish which we source locally and along the coast.

We’re very proud that our commitment to offering the very best, local and sustainable seafood has been recognised by some of the country’s most prestigious award schemes. Our owner, Sebastian Candelon was awarded the title of "Master Fishmonger" in 2018.

The Fresh Fish Shop has been named as a finalist in the 2020 Sussex Food & Drink Awards (in the ‘Shop of the Year’ category) and as a finalist in the Fishmonger category of the Farm Shop & Deli Awards 2020.

Where our wild-caught fish comes from:

All of our flat fish such as Plaice, Dover Sole, Lemon Sole, Brill and Turbot usually come from small local day boats from Brighton and the surrounding south coast, using low impact fishing methods. Our Monkfish, Octopus, and Sardines usually come from small day boats in Cornwall. We can also supply wild caught Alaskan salmon.

Our white fish predominantly comes from Peterhead market in Scotland, which is handpicked by our expert buyers and is all from MSC-certified sources. Peterhead has recently become the first port to receive 'Responsible Fishing Ports Scheme' certification.
